It’s been quite some time since Sonam A Kapoor appeared on the big screen. Now a hands-on mother to Vayu, the actress has consciously taken a step back from her acting career. Her last major theatrical release was The Zoya Factor in 2019, followed by Blind in 2023, which premiered on OTT. However, the fashionista has made appearances at quite a few high-profile fashion events in recent times.

During a conversation with us, when asked about her comeback plans, Sonam said, “I became a mother and wanted to give it as much time as possible – so that I could witness the process of seeing my son grow up. I wanted to enjoy the feeling of being a mother and it has been the most rewarding experience of my life. Now, I will be back to doing what I love doing – acting. I’m being drawn to disruptive subjects that allow me to shine. I have always tried to pick projects with the girl at the heart of the story and that vision hasn’t changed. I want to do projects where the role of the woman is layered and not unidimensional. I’m excited to come back in front of the camera and my first project post-pregnancy will roll out in the last quarter of 2025.”

As Vayu turns three, Sonam reflects on how motherhood has changed her over the years. She shared, “I think being a mom has made me much softer, but at the same time it has made me more resilient and stronger. I have always been intuitive, but now I have become even more intuitive and in touch with myself. I am more patient. I want to tell all the mothers that you are doing okay, just take your time, enjoy each moment and don’t rush. Everyone makes mistakes and not everybody is brilliant at everything. You just have to be present.”

Sonam also opened up about the special bond Anil Kapoor shares with Vayu. “My father is obsessed with Vayu because all he is interested in seeing on the family group chat is Vayu’s videos and pictures. All grandparents think their grandchild is most special. It is so amazing watching my dad react this way because he definitely did not have this reaction when my sister Rhea, brother Harsh and me were toddlers,” she said.
