SAIYAARA had a fantastic second day as it collected 25 crore nett showing growth of around 20%. There were some centres which were flat but this itself is a huge achievement considering how the film had opened. The film had basically done unthinkable business on day one in mass centres of North, Bihar, West Bengal and Rajasthan and CI especially for a non star cast film. Hence, growth was going to be difficult in these parts but it will be a different story on Sunday as these areas go to another level.

The bulk of the growth will have come in the Maharashtra/Gujarat pocket which was a little less on Friday and is playing catch up. Although the growth is there in this circuit, it is still behind the others but Sunday can change that. The two day numbers of the film are 46 crore nett and looking at the early figures on Sunday, it will be a 75 crore nett plus weekend for the film for sure.

The film has mass acceptance across the country and now its just about where the Monday lands. No doubt its going to be huge hold on Monday but it will be about how good is the hold and looking at the craze of the film the numbers of films like RAID 2, HOUSEFULL 5 and SITAARE ZAMEEN PAR are sitting ducks for this film and will be done in no time.

The film is a BLOCKBUSTER and the Monday numbers will confirm that. The film is also scoring in Overseas as Gulf, US and United Kingdom all opened very well for a non cast film and the craze in India filtering through to overseas will ensure very good run in overseas also. The first day was $425k apprx.

SAIYAARA recorded the highest opening day collections ever for a film in the LOVE STORY genre as it edged past the numbers of KABIR SINGH. It is a genre which which does not have many films as rom coms have been the flavour of the industry over the last decade or so.

Both films had mass acceptance but it is SAIYAARA which actually opened better in the heavily populated mass circuits while KABIR SINGH was better in Mumbai and South. The phenomenal numbers for SAIYAARA came in Delhi/UP and Bihar more so in UP and Bihar where smaller centres and single screens rocked from the first show.

It was the Delhi/UP number which took the film to 21 crore nett as usually you would expect better numbers in the NCR belt for a film like this with newcomers but it was the opposite here with UP going crazy. It is rare for a film to be 5 crore nett in Mumbai and 6 crore nett in Delhi/UP unless there is a distinct regional flavour but this was not showing up in the trailer. SAIYAARA and KABIR SINGH are the only Love Story genre films to go over 20 crore nett. They are slightly different as KABIR SINGH is what you would call a violent love story and it has a feel of action while SAIYAARA is more in traditional love story zone. But eventually both fall in the same genre.  

KABIR SINGH will be the comparison going forward as well because it looks a ditto weekend for both films and lifetime could also fallow a similar pattern depending on whether SAIYAARA can get a similar Monday.
