MAALIK did poor business on its first day; it collected 3 crore nett as the Hindi belts did not come on board like they should for a film of this zone. The problem is that in this genre, you are not going to have huge growth or double up on the second day and hence, you need to open. If this number came with a social film or film aimed at the gentry, then there is still potential but a film like this has to get a better first day.
The comparisons will come with BHOOL CHUK MAAF but that is probably not correct and the difference in the initial is not as much as it looks though BHOOL CHUK MAAF will be better on fair value collections. Its just that this film does not have the potential of a BHOOL CHUK MAAF post the first day collections in terms of trend.
The other release, AANKHON KI GUSTAAKHIYAN, was very dull collecting around the 25 lakhs nett mark. The collections are no surprise as the trailer itself is not watchable. The surprise here is the film was also released overseas as films at this level would generally not be worth an overseas release especially with Hollywood films dominating screens. It does not take Einstein to guess that collections were horrible overseas.
