Mumbai: Actor Dino Morea and his brother Santino were questioned for eight hours on Monday by officials of Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of city police in connection with the multi-crore Mithi river desilting scam case, said an EOW official. Dino and Santino arrived at the EOW office, located in the compound of the police commissioner’s office, near Crawford market, around 11 am and left at 7 pm. A source said that they have asked the Moreas to re-visit the EOW office after two days.

Santino is a director of a company, UBO Ridez, which has its address at Worli, near Famous Studio, from where another company, Vodar India LLP, which is under investigation in the desilting scam, functions, said the police.

Two of 13 people named in the criminal offence in the case —Ketan Kadam (50) and Jay Joshi (49) — have been arrested and are currently lodged in Arthur Road jail. It has been alleged that the accused connived to cause a loss of Rs 65.5 crore to the civic body by not desilting the Mithi river, submitting fake bills, and getting them cleared. Kadam and Dino have known each other for a long time, said a police source.

An EOW officer said they are checking if there was any dealings between Kadam and the Moreas. “We suspect that Dino influenced contracts in BMC, including the desilting contract,” said a senior EOW officer.
