Those heading to theatres to watch Dilli Dark might be in for a surprise. Dibya Das Roy’s directorial venture opens with an unusual disclaimer, at the behest of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). With the satire examining racism and class divide in Delhi, the CBFC directed the makers to insert a separate disclaimer clarifying that the film neither represents the capital’s ethos nor aims to defame its citizens.

Dilli Dark, which won acclaim in the film festival circuit, follows the journey of a Nigerian-origin MBA student navigating life in Delhi as he confronts both overt and subtle racism.

A senior member of the film’s production team, on condition of anonymity, said, “If this disclaimer helps prevent misinterpretation, we’re okay with it. But considering the film is A-rated, we don’t see the need for the disclaimer.”

A few expletives have apparently been muted in the satire.
