BHOOL CHUK MAAF collected around 7 crore nett on day one which is a very good number on face value but it is pushed by discounted tickets. It is difficult to say what is the real value of the film but eventually time will tell where the film stands. The film would have shown strong growth on Saturday as its not really an initial film but now growth will be less.

The film has done better in the North and Central markets with best collections coming in Delhi/UP and Rajasthan. The surprise is East Punjab which is very good for a film in such a zone and a star cast like this. The film has 45% of its business coming from the above circuits and all are the ones which were most affected by the Pakistan conflict. So, a release two weeks earlier would have been a killer for the film and could not afford to come on that day.

The comparisons for the film are MR & MRS MAHI which collected 6.84 crore nett with Cinema Lovers Day offer on day one and VICKY VIDYA KA WOH WALA VIDEO which collected 5.47 crore nett on the first day. The three films all have the same hero and although BHOOL CHUK MAAF has the highest collections of the three, it is probably VICKY VIDYA KA WOH WALA VIDEO which is best on fair value. BHOOL CHUK MAAF also has similar ratios to VICKY VIDYA KA WOH WALA VIDEO if we take out East Punjab and generally the films have performed best in the same centres.

The film has a two week window only till it comes on television which actually the exhibitors should not be allowing although it will not really change the picture and this will not be the norm. As for BHOOL CHUK MAAF, it remains to be seen where it goes though the boosted day one ensures a good weekend. For the record books, its the seventh highest opening day of the year on the number it has got.

BHOOL CHUK MAAF picked up 9.50 crore nett adding to the 7 crore nett on Friday which gives the film a two day total of 16.50 crore nett. There was generally strong growth on Saturday with holdovers like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING, FINAL DESTINATION BLOODLINES and RAID 2 all jumping in the 75-100% range.

The new release BHOOL CHUK MAAF managed a 35% jump on the second day as it was never going to be a huge jump due to the discounted tickets in play on day one. This film is picking up numbers more or less in double digits in Saturday and Sunday. It should be celebration time when such a film can get these sort of number over the weekend with such a cast and on top a non sequel film but only if it was totally clean.

The film has not managed to get to a proper release in Overseas due to the two week window which means most of the bigger exhibitors are not playing but still some are and no doubt with this sort of release, there will not be much collections. But the issue is at certain places where the film is playing, the collections are similar to other Hindi release KAPKAPIIII. KAPKAPIIII has only done 30-35 lakhs nett in India in two days but its collections in United Kingdom and are almost double with BHOOL CHUK MAAF doing £1,100 from 18 cinemas and KAPKAPIIII doing £2150 on 30 cinemas. 

This just cant happen when collections in India are so much better for BHOOL CHUK MAAF and on top it is by far the bigger film with much more awareness. A film doing 26-28 crore nett weekend in India will hardly need a few shows to beat another Hindi film like KAPKAPIIII in the UK market which is not even doing 75 lakhs over the weekend in India. It sort of spells out what is going on here and remains to be seen how long this continues.
