Mumbai: Netflix India is set for its biggest year in 2025 after Los Gatos Production Services spent Rs. 3,644 crore ($440 million) on content in FY24, even as streaming originals declined amid an industry slowdown, a senior executive told ET. The investment aligns with Netflix’s global strategy.

The streaming giant has raised its annual content budget for 2025 to $18 billion from $17 billion, with co-CEO Ted Sarandos recently saying the platform will feature its strongest programming line-up since it began producing original content.

“We are not changing our investment levels at all. In fact, we are doing several big things at a tentpole level,” Monika Shergill, vice president of content, Netflix India.

Netflix India’s 2025 slate will feature 28 original titles across Hindi and South Indian languages, spanning romantic comedies, crime, action, and returning seasons of major franchises.

Beyond original programming, line-up includes theatrical blockbusters such as Pushpa 2, reinforcing Netflix’s push to capture a wider audience in the Indian market. The number of streaming originals in India declined to 315 in 2024 from a peak of 383 in 2023, according to an Ormax Media report, reflecting a broader industry slowdown.
