Mrs, which will be released tomorrow on Zee5, is the remake of the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen. Often, our filmmakers falter while remaking but Arati Kadav gets it right with this film. The Great Indian Kitchen had certain cultural references; Arati nicely takes care of it while changing the setting to North India. The struggles of the protagonist are well depicted and it's also very relatable. On the flipside, though the film is just 106 minutes, it drags in the middle, especially when one understands the point that the makers are trying to make. Sanya Malhotra is superb and yet again proves that she's capable of handling a film on her shoulders. Nishant Dahiya is aptly cast. Kanwaljit Singh leaves a huge mark and is a surprise as one has never seen him do such a role. Nitya Moyal (Saavi; kid) is cute. Gulsita (Saavi's mother), Varun Badola (Tunnu) and Loveleen Misra (Nirjala; Diwakar's bua) are there for a scene but they leave a huge mark. All in all, Mrs works due to the execution, message and Sanya Malhotra's performance.
My rating - *** ½ out of 5!
