No midnight shows for Pushpa 2 in Bengaluru; Allu Arjun starrer to not have screenings before 6 AM
Box Office India Trade Network

PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE (Hindi) recorded the highest opening day ever as it edged past the JAWAN (Hindi) number by around 1 crore nett. This may not seem a huge margin but it is much higher than it looks as there is a minimal contribution from the South. The film collected 65 crore nett apprx on day one but fair value is around 75 crore nett if we take it like an original Hindi film.

It is the second film to go over 60 crore nett in Hindi after JAWAN but this has come on a non holiday also which shows holidays hardly matter when there is genuine craze for a film. The film set insane records in circuits like Mumbai, CP Berar, CI, Bihar and Odisha. East Punjab was expected to be an under performer but has come out with an outstanding total of almost 5.50 crore nett. This is not the highest but much more than expected as it comfortably beats the likes of ANIMAL and STREE 2.

The slight under performance has come in Delhi/UP where the number is below JAWAN and a little higher than STREE 2. This is surprising considering the numbers from East Punjab and Bihar as one side of Delhi/UP circuit works like East Punjab and the other side works like Bihar. Bihar is simply insane as its looking to finish with a final total at almost 3 crore nett beating the KGF - CHAPTER 2 record by around 35-40%.

Mumbai circuit comfortably crossed 20 crore nett for the first time in history with phenomenal numbers in both Maharashtra and Gujarat. The all India numbers will come in at around 150 crore nett and will be updated later.

The film has another South star after Prabhas putting up huge numbers in the core of India but where the star status stands for Allu Arjun remains to be seen. Here it is not the star but the PUSHPA factor working just like it was with BAAHUBALI. The star status for Prabhas in the Hindi belts came from the films post BAAHUBALI and its the same for Allu Arjun as the level of stardom will depend on the numbers outside the PUSHPA franchise. It remains to be seen how this plays out and does Allu Arjun become a major star like Prabhas with the Hindi audience.

PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE 2 hit out of the park as it set the highest opening day in Hindi of 65 crore nett with a non holiday Thursday release. It takes the potential of a Hindi blockbuster to get 75 crore nett with South on the first day though this is much easier to say than actually do.

The fact that the film was actually aiming for records that KGF - CHAPTER 2 held in mass pockets rather than JAWAN, PATHAAN or STREE 2 spells out the problems of the Hindi film industry in terms of mass penetration. In time, an original Hindi film may cross the 65 crore nett mark but the numbers that PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE has put up in Maharashtra, Gujarat, CP Berar, CI, Bihar an Odisha may well be a dream for that film which goes over 65 crore nett. Basically it will be setting a record with the help of South India.

The quicker the industry learns what is happening out there on the ground the better as if not then there will be more South films dominating with the biggest openings in Hindi. In history, the biggest films have always been raw and rustic films with a larger than life heroes with a couple of exceptions and at the moment there no makers in the Hindi film industry able to make this cinema leaving the door open for the South.

The comparison between JAWAN (Hindi) and PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE (Hindi) taking out South is 51.50 crore nett for the former and 62 crore nett for the latter and this is including Marathawada which goes into Nizam/Andhra circuit. This is a huge difference which should not be there when you are reaching your core audience. Simply put, the original Hindi film has a bigger market in the Hindi language and so, this original film should be dominating the box office numbers as well.

The top opening days for Hindi films are as follows (Hindi language only)
1. Pushpa 2 - The Rule - 65,00,00,000 apprx
2. Jawan  - 63,87,00,000
3. Pathaan - 55,72,00,000
4.  Stree 2 - 53,12,00,000
5. KGF - Chapter 2 - 52,39,00,000
6. Animal - 51,48,00,000
7. War - 50,61,00,000
8. Thugs Of Hindostan - 48,27,00,000
9. Bharat - 41,62,00,000
10. Tiger 3 - 40,88,00,000
--------------------------------------------
PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE has set new benchmarks in CP Berar and Bihar as it becomes the first film to collect 4 crore nett and 3 crore nett respectively in the two circuits. The Bihar record is most impressive as the margin it has between the number two films is extraordinary. The craze of the film is insane in the circuit.

It may well be said that the collections are this huge as the trailer was launched in Patna (Bihar) but its pretty much laughable as box office just does not work this way. Even if it was launched elsewhere, these collections would have still come. PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE has taken the circuit to a new level with this 3 crore nett number as no film had even hit 2 crore nett pre pandemic.

CP Berar also sees South domination and by margins as KGF - CHAPTER 2 is the only film to cross 3 crore nett and now PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE is the only film to cross 4 crore nett. There is a gap of almost 1.50 crore nett between PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE and STREE 2 which is the top original film. Maharashtra has always been strong for content from the South. Even in the 80's when the trend was remakes from Madras led by the Jeetendra/Sridevi starrers, it was Maharashtra leading the way in terms of box office collections.

The top collections for Hindi films in Bihar are as follows.
1. Pushpa 2 - The Rule - 3,00,00,000
2. KGF - Chapter 2 - 2,17,00,000
3. Gadar 2 - 2,04,00,000
4. Jawan - 2,00,00,000
5. Pathaan - 1,85,00,000

The top collections for Hindi films in CP Berar are as follows.
1. Pushpa 2 - The Rule - 4,08,00,000
2. KGF - Chapter 2 - 3,71,00,000
3. Stree 2 - 2,68,00,000
4. Pathaan - 2,63,00,000
5. Jawan - 2,55,00,000
--------------------------------------------
PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE set a record box office collection of 144 crore nett across India in all versions on its first day. This easily beats the previous biggest grossers (BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION, KGF - CHAPTER 2 and RRR). These films had all gone over 100 crore nett but remained under 110 crore nett. But PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE has gone over 140 crore nett on day one and there is 10 crore nett also from the paid previews on Wednesday which were mainly in Nizam/Andhra and Mysore/Karnataka.

The film, like BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION, scored in both the big collecting sectors of Hindi and Nizam/Andhra which was not the case with RRR and KGF - CHAPTER 2. In Nizam/Andhra, it fell a little short of RRR which is the biggest opener in the market but managed to edge past DEVARA (not counting paid previews). In Tamil Nadu, its pretty much similar to RRR and will possibly be the highest number ever for a Telugu film in that state. Kerala is also the highest for a Telugu film though it is less than KGF - CHAPTER 2. But it will be the Hindi version driving the film in the long run as reports down South are not as good as they are from the heartland.

If we count the paid previews, then the collections come out to 154 crore nett after the first day and there is another $7.5 million in Overseas which is like two days for the big South films. This gives the film a worldwide total of 247 crore after the first day. BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION and RRR were the biggest before this and were around the 200 crore range.

The all India collections of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE on day one are as follows. The Hindi version includes collections from the South.
Hindi - 65,00,00,000 appr
Nizam/Andhra - 55,00,00,000 apprx
Mysore/Karnataka - 8,25,00,000
Tamil Nadu - 8,25,00,000
Kerala - 5,10,00,000
Hindi Circuits (Regional Version) - 2,50,00,000
TOTAL -  1,44,10,00,000 apprx
--------------------------------------------
PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE recorded a huge second day with collections of 53 crore nett in Hindi which takes the film to 118 crore nett in two days and looking at the advances for Saturday and Sunday, the box office is going to take a battering over the next two days. The film is very likely to cross the 250 crore mark over its extended four day weekend and a 70 crore nett day in Hindi language for the first time in history.

We may even see 75 crore nett on Sunday and it will be coming with a limited South which shows the rage the film is in the heartland. A comparison for the film is JAWAN which released on Thursday as well and the collections there were 45 crore nett on the second day while the first day was pretty much similar to PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE (Hindi). The trend is at another level but there was always a chance of this happening considering how high the mass pockets were on day one.

These areas continued with extraordinary collections on second day and appreciation is such in these parts that it will be a surprise if this film does NOT become the highest grossing film ever in Hindi. The collections are a little less in the two big metros of Mumbai and Delhi but this is all comparatively and when the core of India is on side, it hardly matters if the two biggest centres are under performing by 5-10%. If we take Mumbai circuit, Mumbai city may be a little less but the next two biggest centers - Pune and Thane - are out of this world.

There is a drop in Nizam/Andhra but still the film is doing well there while the weakest market looks to be Kerala but again no surprise as when single screens of Bihar, CP and CI are running riot like this, its hard to expect the film to be breaking records in Kerala. Basically the film is going to smash records because of the Hindi heartland. The Telugu industry is famous for calling all their films as MASS films but this is a genuine one as it can only be a mass film in India when it works in the Hindi heartland which is the heavy populated part of India.

The collections of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE (Hindi) till date are as follows.
Thursday - 65,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 53,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 1,18,00,00,000 apprx
--------------------------------------------
PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE collected 91 crore nett on its second day driven by the Hindi version which was almost 60% of the all India collections. The first day share in Hindi was 45%. The film collected 65 crore nett in Hindi on day one and 79 crore in South while day two was 53 crore nett in Hindi and 38 crore nett in South.

The film has dropped in South India in all the southern circuits though the business in Tamil Nadu still remains excellent for a Telugu film. Despite the drop, the film still has potential to hit 1000 crore mark in India, a feat which has only been achieved by BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION in the history of cinema in India.

The two day numbers stand at 245 crore nett and no doubt Saturday and Sunday should record better numbers than Friday. Then, the film could have around 275 crore nett over the first four days.

The all India collections of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE  on day two are as follows. The Hindi version includes collections from the South.
Hindi - 53,00,00,000 apprx
Nizam/Andhra - 23,50,00,000 apprx
Mysore/Karnataka - 5,50,00,000 apprx
Tamil Nadu - 5,50,00,000 apprx
Kerala - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Hindi Circuits (Regional Version) - 1,50,00,000
TOTAL -  91,00,00,000 apprx

The collections of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE till date on all versions are as follows.
Wednesday - 10,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 1,44,10,00,000 apprx
Friday - 91,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 2,45,10,00,000 apprx
--------------------------------------------
PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE (Hindi) has destroyed all box office records in the first three days as it collected 185 crore nett apprx in the first three days and there is a huge Sunday to come which will be the highest single day collection in history.

The film missed that feat by a minimal margin on Saturday as the collections finished a little less than the Sunday of JAWAN. But nothing like that will happen on Sunday as the carnage has already started in morning with many cinemas declaring collections higher than Saturday as they are full in advance. There will be capacity issues on Sunday but lets see how far high the number can go.

The records are practically everywhere and its actually easier to point out where its not a record. It is just one circuit and that is Delhi/UP where the film is not the highest for the first three days as collections are a little short compared to JAWAN and PATHAAN but surely, the lifetime will go ahead of these films and also the record holder for the circuit, that is, STREE 2.

The film beat the lifetime collections of FIGHTER in two days flat in CP Berar, Bihar and Odisha and in three days in Mumbai, Rajasthan and CI. The film was always the one which had potential to hit the 200 crore nett mark in Mumbai circuit and that number looks on as the film will be standing at over 85 crore nett in just four days. In this circuit the film could be ahead of the likes of PATHAAN and ANIMAL within one week.

PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE is almost certain to be the highest collection ever in Hindi even though competition will arrive in the third week.

The collections of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE  (hindi) till date are as follows.
Thursday - 65,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 53,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 67,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 1,85,00,00,000 apprx
