Mera kasoor thodi hai: Diljit on black marketing of concert tickets

HINDUSTAN TIMES (December 10, 2024)

Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has responded to the criticism against him over his concert tickets being sold in black. During his recent performance in Indore, he addressed the issue and later, also took to Instagram to share a clip of the same on Sunday.

“Bahut der se humare desh mein mere khilaaf chal raha hai ki ‘Diljit ki ticket black ho rahi hain’. Toh mera kasoor thodi hai ticket black horahi hai? Agar aap Rs. 10 ki ticket lelo aur usko Rs. 100 ki bech do toh kalakaar ka kya kasoor hai?” the 40-year-old said in the clip.

He continued, “Jitne ilzam lagane hai laga lo mujhpe. Koi tension nahi hai mujhe. Did all this (black marketing of tickets) start now? From the time there was cinema in India, this was always there — ₹10 tickets [were sold] for ₹20.”

Talking about the rise of domestic independent artistes in India, he said, “Earlier in films, singers used to sing in the background and actors used to lip sync. Now singers have come to the front,” adding, “Mere aur do bhaiyon, [singers] Karan Aujla aur A P Dhillon ne bhi tour shuru kiya hain, unke liye bhi best of luck. Yeh independent music ka time shuru hai. Musibatein toh aayengi. Jab koi revolution aata hai toh musibat aati hai. Hum apna kaam karte jayenge.”

“Pehle baahar ke kalakaar aate thhe toh unki ticket black hoti thi laakhon mein, ab Bharatiya kalakaar ki ticket black ho rahi hai. Isi ko toh kehte hain vocal for local,” said the singer, who is set to perform in Chandigarh on December 14.
