It’s not expected from an actor in our industry to also be an author

Huma Qureshi might have started her professional journey as an actor, but she does not want to limit herself to just being one. Qureshi ventured into writing and had published her first book Zeba: An Accidental Superhero in 2023. She recently took to Instagram to reveal that she has finished writing her second book, Dhundh, as well.

Qureshi admits that actors are not expected to pursue something as intellectual as writing: “Ek toh sab ko gyaan bahut dena hota hai actors ko, pata nahin kyun. I am not trying to be rude, but I haven’t asked for any of those opinions. I guess it’s not expected from an actor in our industry to also be an author, but I never adhered to such terms.”

She adds, “Sometimes, you need to let people explore something new and if they make a mistake, it’s fine. For me, the bigger problem is not even trying anything different. Isse achcha 9-5 wali naukri kar lete. People go through their entire lives being scared to experiment; I find that very suffocating.”

Reflecting on how her writing journey started, the 38-year-old recalls, “During Covid, I got this idea and began wondering what to do with it. Being an actor, the first thought was that I should write a script. But there is something very beautiful about writing a book, it sounds more intelligent.”
