BABY JOHN got advantage of the holiday to push its numbers into double digits as it collected around 10.75 crore nett but as it was a holiday, it should have done better. The film is a remake or interpretation of a South film and that is basically the issue as these films have not just done well post pandemic, be it JERSEY, BHOLAA or SHEHZADA. Now, BABY JOHN has also suffered initially if we take out the holiday factor.
It can easily be seen that the remake is an issue as its the mass circuits which have under performed and this is where the original film would have been consumed much more. Bihar, CP Berar, CI, Gujarat and Rajasthan are all dull and some of these circuits are 50% of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE despite it being day one for BABY JOHN. The likes of Delhi/UP and East Punjab are just 20-25% short of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE as the bigger multiplexes collected similar to the Allu Arjun starrer. The collections overall are better in South India as the circuits there have contributed better comparatively compared to Hindi mass circuits.
The film could have done with better music but even then its likely the remake issue would be there in mass circuits as they don't want to see the same story again. The film is going to find it tough going for two days which is always the risk with a Wednesday release but some respite should come over the weekend.
The release date is also not great with PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE being historic and MUFASA: THE LION KING also doing well. Hence, it becomes a three way clash but on another day, it may not be holiday and so, its a catch 22 situation. Ideally a film like this has to release before the likes of SINGHAM AGAIN and PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE as its same target audience and the audience has seen bigger films in the same zone just weeks back. But the end of the day, these things are decided by many external factors.
