Director-screenwriter Ashwni Dhir, known for Son Of Sardaar (2012) and Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? (2010), suffered a personal tragedy after his 18-year-old son Jalaj, died in an accident in Mumbai on November 23.

The teenager was scheduled to accompany his father to the International Film Festival of India in Goa, where Ashwni’s film Hisaab Barabar, premiered recently.

Jalaj was with three other friends when their vehicle lost control and rammed into a divider by the Vile Parle bridge. While two teens escaped with minor injuries, Jalaj and another friend were rushed to a trauma centre, but eventually succumbed to their injuries.

Following a complaint filed by Jalaj’s friend, the driver of the vehicle was arrested by Mumbai police and his blood samples were sent for tests. Jalaj’s funeral was held on Sunday and a prayer meeting was organized on November 26.
