VICKY VIDYA KA WOH WALA VIDEO VS JIGRA THIS FRIDAY
Before the ultimate Diwali clash, the industry gears up for the release of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Jigra this Friday. Both films have big names in the star cast and are handled by reputed filmmakers.
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video stars Rajkummar Rao and Tripti Dimrii and also stars Mallika Sherawat in a crucial role. It is directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, who also made Dream Girl and is considered one of the few filmmakers who can still make old-school comedy films. The premise of the film is interesting – a newly wedded couple makes an intimate video and it gets stolen. The trailer is hilarious and has received a positive response. The songs, too, have got attention and it has kept the film in public memory. Both Rajkummar and Triptii are having a great run. In fact, Rajkummar Rao’s last film, Stree 2, came just two months ago and is the biggest hit ever in Hindi cinema.
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video will open in the range of Rs. 6-7 crores and if the response is positive, it can see a huge jump. The Dussehra holiday, sadly, is on Saturday, October 12 but if the film has good word of mouth, it’ll have a clean run for three weeks.
Jigra, meanwhile, stars Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina and is directed by Vasan Bala of Monica O My Darling fame. It is a lovely story of a sister going all out to save her brother. The teaser left an impact, especially with the use of the song ‘Phoolon Ka Taron Ka’. But many also complained that it didn’t pack a punch as intended. The trailer had a thriller feel and got a better response.
Still, the film has challenges as the songs haven’t worked at all. The promotion has been minimal. Also, certain comments of Alia have been interpreted in a certain way and have gone viral, leading to trolling. The decision by the producers, Dharma Productions, to not hold a press show has also raised questions about the film.
Nevertheless, these factors won’t matter if Jigra has substance. It’ll open around Rs. 4-5 crores and if word of mouth is on its side, it’ll see a huge jump on Saturday and Sunday.
