Shambhala is the official entry to the Oscars from Nepal and is also the most expensive Nepalese film ever made (INR 9.30 crores approx). The film was shot in one of the highest human settlements on the planet and has never before seen visuals. The life shown in the film is lovely and one instantly gets sucked into the world. However, it is 150 minutes long and after a point, it tests the patience of the viewers. The ending is not easy to understand and doesn't give you a high. Thinley Lhamo (Pema) has the maximum screen time and plays her part with aplomb. Tenzin Dalha (Tashi) leaves a mark. Sonam Topden (Karma) is decent while Karma Wangyal Gurung (Dawa) is lovely. Loten Namling (Rinpoche) and Karma Shakya (Ram sir) lend able support. All in all, Shambhala is too slow and confusing to make an impact.
