Nani thinks actor-director Rishab Shetty meant well when he said that Bollywood does not portray India in a positive light. Sharing his perspective on Shetty’s comment, the actor said that some “great, magical films” are being made in Bollywood.
“I don’t think Bollywood shows India in a negative light. I don’t think Rishab meant it that way. I think what he was referring to was more rooted stories,” Nani told India Today.
Talking about Hindi films, he added, “In a few [Bollywood] films, a lot of importance is given to the technique and style of filmmaking rather than the core of the emotional story. But there are some great, magical films in Hindi too.”
Recently, after winning a National Film Award for his film Kantara (2022), Shetty told MetroSaga in Kannada: “Indian films, particularly Bollywood, often portray India negatively. These so-called art films get showcased at international events and receive special attention. For me, my nation, my state, and my language are sources of pride. I believe in presenting them in a positive light to the world, and that’s exactly what I strive to do.”
