‘Alia changed her loud tone to put me at ease’

Actor Ranbir Kapoor revealed that his wife, actor Alia Bhatt has undergone more changes for him since their marriage than he has for her. During an episode of Nikhil Kamath’s YouTube podcast People by WTF, Ranbir discussed the deliberate adjustments that Alia had made to help him feel more comfortable.

“She used to speak in a very loud tone. I think my father’s (late actor Rishi Kapoor) tone, growing up, always rattled me. So, she really made an effort to change that. And that’s not easy, when you’ve lived 30 years of your life speaking in a certain way. She does many things to put me at ease and I hope I could say the same, but I don’t think I’ve done it yet,” Ranbir remarked.

Opening up further about his relationship with his wife, the 41-year-old shared, “Alia was somebody I met over the years, and I knew that she was special. I have immense respect for her as an actor and also, how she is as a daughter and a sister. She really makes me smile. I love going home to her.”

He also described her as an “overachiever”, “very passionate about work” and “extremely intelligent”, noting that while her attention can be a bit scattered, he has managed to capture it over the years.

During the conversation, Ranbir also reflected on how the frequent arguments between his late father and mother, actor Neetu Kapoor deeply affected him as a child, particularly due to his dad’s tone.

Ranbir and Alia began dating during the pre-production phase of Ayan Mukerji’s 2022 blockbuster fantasy film Brahmastra. They were married in 2022 in a private ceremony at their Mumbai home and welcomed their daughter, Raha Kapoor, later that year.
