Kalki 2898 AD starts with a bang but then drops. The direction could have been far more effective. Also, the concept is not clear and it'll confuse viewers. The intermission point is arresting and thankfully, the second half goes on another level. The last 30 minutes are clapworthy and the film ends on a very promising note. The VFX matches global standards. Other shortcomings of the film are poor music and the strong resemblance of some scenes with Mad Max. Prabhas is in a much better form compared to his last few outings and he also rocks in funny scenes. Amitabh Bachchan is terrific, to say the least. It's a pleasure to see him in an action avatar after ages. Deepika Padukone adds a lot to the film with her presence and performance. Kamal Haasan is outstanding though he has limited screen time. Disha Patani looks stunning but is wasted. Shobana (Mariam) and Anna Ben (Kyra) leave a huge mark. Saswata Chatterjee (Manas), Kavya Ramachandran (Lily), Brahmanandam (Rajan), Anil George (Bani) and Pasupathy (Veeran) lend able support. The special appearances will surprise the audience. All in all, Kalki 2898 AD is a superb entertainer and the way it blends future with mythology is seen to be believed (P.S.: DO NOT MISS THE BEGINNING AT ANY COST).
My rating - *** ½ out of 5!
