Mumbai: BJP is likely to concede the Mumbai North West seat to Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, which is said to be in talks with two celebrity actors for it. Party sources said one of the two actors is Govinda, who had already fought Lok Sabha polls, while the other is a prominent face in Hindi and Marathi cinema. Sources said no final decision has been taken yet.
Shiv Sena (UBT) has announced Amol Kirtikar’s name as its candidate. While Amol’s father Gajanan Kirtikar is the sitting MP and in Shinde-led Shiv Sena, BJP was keen to fight for it and had pitched for one of its local MLAs or a celebrity candidate. However, with the entry of MNS in Mahayuti and seat-sharing talks progressing, it is likely Shinde’s Shiv Sena could get the seat.
Mumbai North West includes Jogeshwari East, Dindoshi, Goregaon, Versova, Andheri West and East assembly constituencies. Two MLAs are from Sena (UBT) and three from BJP. With Ravindra Waikar, the Shinde-led Sena has one MLA from this area.
Congress’s Sanjay Nirupam is keen to fight too. Political observers said the CM is keen on Mumbai North West since if Sena does not get that seat, it could end up with just one in Mumbai South Central. If Congress doesn’t get this seat, it may have to fight for Mumbai North Central and Mumbai South Central.
