Bheed lag gayi hai gaanon ki: Jubin on music industry

Jubin Nautiyal went the indie route to release his album, Tum Aaye Ho Toh, as he felt that working with a label would’ve taken away its exclusivity. With new songs flooding the market daily, the singer feels “the audience misses out on a lot of good songs”. He says, “Ye jo do-teen din me gaana ban jaata hai, mujhe wo sahi nahin lagta. It’s possible that a few songs are cracked overnight, but I don’t support making it an everyday thing. Bheed lag gayi hai gaanon ki.”

The 34-year-old believes that music should be timeless: “My purpose of making music [is that it] should last for decades and remain fresh in people’s hearts and minds.”

He also rues the “culture of likes and views” that exists today. “If you remove all these numbers from the screen, I don’t think the audience will know what to listen to. People will be clueless”, says the Manike (Thank God, 2022) singer, who wants to have a world where art doesn’t show any user stats.

He says, “People will have to figure out what they like and what they don’t. This will help them find hidden gems that were lost due to number games. Aisa music niklega jo kabhi suna nahi hoga, aur wo bahut khoobsurat hoga.”
