Fighter Review: Might Pass Muster If Hrithik Roshan's Presence Is Enough Inducement
Box Office India Trade Network

FIGHTER has seen a decent first day at the box office of around 23 crore nett but this is well short of expectations for a film starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone and directed by Siddharth Anand whose last film was PATHAAN. The film should have done 30 crore nett at least and even that would be lower than the expectations from the industry mainly due to the numbers some films got.

On the other hand, considering the start in the morning, the film has done well to get over 20 crore nett as it got better momentum post the afternoon which was due to the big holiday today.  Now the film will have some momentum for the next three days as far as the big centres go.

The better collections of the film are in South and metros like Mumbai, NCR and Kolkata while mass pockets have not performed and ratios are far too less for an action film; its only Gujarat which is better than a social film like DUNKI. Despite South having the better collections, they are also short of DUNKI levels.

The film should have been released on Friday so it could have benefited form the Republic Day holiday but that is easier to say post release when the required numbers have not come. The film is behaving like an urban action film and although today there is a big jump in mass circuits this jump is coming from low levels.

The film is behaving like an urban action film and although today there is a big jump in mass circuits, this jump is coming from low levels.

The film needs to average out 30-35 crore nett over the next three days which will give it a pretty good four day total but that wont be easy as it needs strong holds over the weekend.
---------------------------------------
FIGHTER has had a pretty good opening day in overseas considering its a Thursday release and a ban in many countries. The film has collected around $1-1.1 million with a working day Thursday release and no collections from Gulf.

The film should be looking to cross $5 million from this start which would be a good total with Gulf missing if it gets there. Hrithik Roshan only has two films above the $10 million mark which are WAR and BANG BANG and $5 million in four days would give it a chance of a $10 million lifetime total.

The zone of the film also limits the overseas business of the film as much of the Muslim audience avoids the film especially Muslims from Pakistan which form a major chunk of the audience in some circuits.

The collections from major circuits are as follows.
United Kingdom - £100k apprx
USA / Canada - $600k apprx
Australia - A$265k apprx

FIGHTER did very good business on its second day which was the Republic Day national holiday as it collected 38.50 crore nett approx giving it a huge jump of 70% from the first day. This now takes the film to a solid 61.50 crore nett and that 100 crore nett Fri-Sun weekend looks possible for the film.

The collections of the second day are the second highest ever for Hrithik Roshan in a single day after the first day of WAR which was also a big national holiday. It means if the film had released on Friday, it could have probably challenged the WAR number.

The numbers were propelled up by the doubling up of mass circuits be it Gujarat, Rajasthan or CI but despite this doubling, the collections remain on the lower side in these belts due to the low opening numbers. So. there will be potential of these going to a higher level on Sunday.

FIGHTER suffered with a Thursday release. The hype and curiosity was not there among the public to get a good number up on a odd day release. However, day two has put the film in the picture and the next few days will tell if its about the holiday or whether the film also has some staying power.

The film is doing better in the bigger multiplexes so that should mean Saturday can hold well enough and the crucial part will probably be the growth on Sunday as then the mass pockets have to score if the film is to sustain in the long run. The film also saw a good jump overseas and it will be a comfortable $5 million plus extended weekend total and maybe towards $6 and this is without Gulf.

The two day numbers of FIGHTER are as follows.
Thursday - 23,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 38,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 61,10,00,000 apprx
