(Crisp) Movie Review: KADAK SINGH by FENIL SETA

Kadak Singh, which released today on Zee5, must have sounded very promising on paper. The film begins on an intriguing and amusing note. The flashback keeps the interest going. The makers neatly keep the balance between the father-daughter track and that of the chit fund scam. After a point, the focus is solely on the chit fund scam and the daughter track takes a backseat. And this ruins the film as the scam track is not as exciting. It is even complicated. Performances, thankfully, save the day. Pankaj Tripathi is terrific, as always. Sanjana Sanghi has grown as an actor and one wishes she had more to do in the second half. Parvathy Thiruvothu (Miss Kanan) is too good; one has never seen such a patient-nurse equation ever. Jaya Ahsan (Naina) is lovely and wins hearts. Paresh Pahuja (Arjun) is dependable while Varun Buddhadev (Aditya) and Dilip Shankar (Tyagi; boss) are fair. All in all, Kadak Singh is disappointing and worth watching only for the performances.
