There has been buzz that actors Sunny Deol’s Border (1997) and Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar (2012) will be revived and turned into franchises. We’ve learnt that there is no truth in these claims as the films are stuck in legal complications.

Squashing all speculations, a source tells us, “When it comes to Border 2 and Son Of Sardaar 2, there are many doubts about the way ahead. Both of the films are still embroiled in legal complications, which makes creating a franchise difficult.”

Director J P Dutta’s Border featured actors Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna and Kulbhushan Kharbanda along with Deol. A source says, “Bharat Shah, the original presenter and financier, has filed a case on the makers for not giving him the money as Dutta had sold the film to someone else. At that time, he was claiming Rs. 12 to Rs. 15 crore. Now he is asking for Rs. 25 to Rs. 30 crore.”

This is the same case for Son Of Sardaar, which was a remake of the 2010 Telugu film Maryada Ramanna and starred Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Juhi Chawla. The source says, “The financier Bablu has the legal rights to the property. The film franchise can’t go ahead without getting into legal trouble. People are just running with speculative stories to create a buzz, with no truth to it.”

The rumours of Deol being roped in for Border 2 began after the success of Gadar 2, explains the source as it “was Sunny’s second biggest film”. “If the legal issues are sorted, then it might turn into a reality,” the source wraps up.
