OTT should celebrate good content and not stars: Rajshri

Rajshri Deshpande is not too happy with the idea of only celebrating stars in the OTT space, like films. Though the actor admits that the lines between commercial and art-house cinema have blurred, she adds, “I understand that OTT platforms need to bring in stars to the streaming space. But I also feel that we should celebrate cinema that just has great content, storytelling and acting.”

The 40-year-old, known for her acts in projects such as Sacred Games and Trial by Fire, adds, “I think a film shouldn’t just be about the star factor; the script should be the star. In fact, the celebration of good content is lesser even on OTT now. I feel the poster should feature someone who has delivered an incredible performance and not just the star associated with a project. It could even feature a director who has done a brilliant job.”

Deshpande, whose film Privacy was recently selected for an international film festival, feels it’s unfair to judge a project on the basis of its social media traction: “Let’s not judge cinema based on how many likes or shares it has got. I hope we manage to blur that line.”
