As violence erupts in her home state, Manipur, actor Lin Laishram is engulfed with a “feeling of helplessness”, as she’s currently in Mumbai. She says, “It is heartbreaking to see my land go through so much pain. We cannot do anything apart from praying for peace to prevail. I spoke to my mother when the crisis was at its peak and she told me that she had not bathed for four days, as the water supply was cut off.”
Questioning the silence in Bollywood on the matter, the actor, 37, says, “How selfish are our celebrities? They talk about what’s happening in America or Ukraine. They say ki Northeast bahut sundar hai, log achhe hain aur sports mein aage hain. So why not come together when we need their voices? Shame on you (celebs) for not coming together. Everybody has turned a blind eye to it.”
She continues, “India is ruled by Bollywood and cricket. When Mirabai Chanu (Olympic-winning weightlifter) or Mary Kom (boxing world champion) won medals for the country, people were clapping. Where are those people now? Nobody cares about us when it comes to talking for us,” asserts the Om Shanti Om (2007) and Mary Kom (2014) actor.
