The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan is a French film dubbed in English. As the title suggests, it is based on the classic novel. The storyline is intriguing and dramatic. Some scenes are well directed and captured on celluloid and the film doesn’t even bore even once. However, it’s too confusing. There are too many characters with difficult French names. If one hasn’t read the book before, several plot points will go bouncer. Some questions are left unanswered and the film ends on a cliffhanger, which is a bit of a downer. Speaking of performances, François Civil (D'Artagnan) is okay in the lead. Vincent Cassel (Athos) leaves a huge mark. Pio Marmaï (Porthos) and Romain Duris (Aramis) are decent. Louis Garrel (King Louis XIII of France), Julien Frison (Gaston de France Valois; king's brother) and Vicky Krieps (Queen Anne of France) are okay and aren't convincing as royal characters. Lyna Khoudri (Constance) is lovely. Eva Green (Milady), the most recognizable face for the Indian audiences in the film, is quite good. All in all, The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan is an average fare.
My rating - ** ½ out of 5!
