'Adipurush Is Hurting Every India': Film Body Writes To PM, Pushes For Ban

ADIPURUSH saw collections come down heavily on Monday with a drop of around 78% but it was pretty much coming for the film due to the trend of the weekend. The inability for Sunday to push higher sort of numbers spelt it out for the film. The film has also dropped 78% from Sunday and when a film like BRAHMASTRA takes a 65% drop from Sunday, it was on the cards that even a 70% drop for ADIPURUSH would be a miracle. The collections were 7.75 crore nett on Monday taking the film to nearly 113 crore nett.

It is possible for a film to hold when it fails to jump on Sunday but that is when there are capacity issues and there was no such case here. The drop of the film is across the board with the centres which were better on the first day also falling more. The better holds have actually come in the bigger multiplexes while others have seen bigger drops.

The negativity and flak for this film has been at another level and probably never seen before. But that is the risk you take when you make a religious type of film and its different from the image that people have of that time. There are many films that have negativity and pull through but they are normally the regular commercial films which are not playing with sentiments of the audience and are viewed as entertainment.

Here the audiences (Hindi belts) came to see Ramayana but got to see a completely different Ramayana which they did not take too kindly at all. Basically the plus point which got the audience in turned out to be the biggest negative of the film post release.

The film has faced outright rejection but its not all doom and gloom as the industry was thirsting for audiences to come to theatres and they did in numbers for this film which shows theatrical business is alive. The rejection is a downer but it could have been much much worse if the film did not get the big weekend numbers in.

There is a also a big drop in Telugu as well but its not as bad as the Hindi version as maybe there many people are coming for the star as compared to the Hindi audiences who are came for the film which was just not to their liking.
