Salman Khan: Kuch directors India ko Colaba se Andheri tak hi samajhte hain
HINDUSTAN TIMES (April 7, 2023)

Of late, several Bollywood films have struggled to make a splash at the box office. While people have given different reasons for the failures, actor Salman Khan feels they were simply “bad films”.

During an interaction with the media, he was asked about the underperformance of Hindi films at the box office, and Khan replied, “I have been hearing this for a very long time that our Hindi films are not working. Kharab picture banaoge toh kaise chalegi.” He added, “Everyone thinks that they are making Mughal-e-Azam (1960), Sholay (1975), Hum Aapke Hai Koun or Dilwale (both 1994), but woh eventually banti nahin hai.”

Khan brought the filmmakers under the radar and said that Hindi films are not connecting with audiences because directors have a different understanding of India. “Aaj kal ke jo kuch directors hain, jinke saath maine interact kiya hai, woh Hindustan ko Colaba se Andheri tak hi samajhte hain. However, Hindustan is very different. People want to watch Hindustani content,” he added.

However, the Wanted (2009) actor quickly added that, while he said all this, he hopes that his film Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan proves him right. “I hope my words don’t come back to bite me. Bhaari nahin padhna chahiye. People shouldn’t question what kind of film have I made,” he shared.
