(Crisp) Movie Review: GUMRAAH by FENIL SETA

Gumraah starts on a thrilling note; the entry scenes of the characters and the murder scene are well executed. The flashback scenes put a halt to the thrill factor. But the romantic track is lovely and keep the interest going. Sadly, after a point, the film becomes messy. The family angle fails to stir emotions. And the climax is the biggest downer. The suspense is random and very unconvincing. Speaking of performances, Aditya Roy Kapur looks suave and dashing. As the sophisticated guy, he is good but as the ruffian, he could have done a better job. Mrunal Thakur's entry is superb but then she disappears until the second half. Performance-wise, she's first-rate. Ronit Roy is dependable. Vedika Pinto has a nice screen presence but doesn't have much to do after a point. Deepak Kalra (Chaddi) is passable. Songs don't work. All in all, Gumraah is disappointing.
