Cinema experience cannot be compared to OTT: Rani

Actor Rani Mukerji returned to the big screen recently with Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway and enjoyed living through the excitement, nervousness and anticipation around the release of a film in theatres. She says while OTT is the new word of business, it can never take the place of watching a story come alive on the silver screen.

“OTT is a very new concept that has come in the last two-three years. That is when the whole conversation around content on OTT started. It is new to all of us, but films predominantly are supposed to be watched on the 70mm or 90mm screen,” Mukerji says.

The 45-year-old continues, “Watching a movie is a community experience, just like watching sports in a stadium. The whole feeling is so different when we watch sports on TV. It is the same thing when you watch a film with an audience.”

And the actor asserts that the “immersive feeling comes only when you are in a movie theatre”. She adds, “Cinema experience can’t be compared to the boredom of watching a film at home. For me, that’s too boring. At home, you could be distracted by your phone or something else. I like to watch films on the big screen.”
