Mumbai: A man suspected to be the former driver entered the flat of Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam’s father musician Agam Kumar Nigam (76), who lives on the seventh floor of a plush residential building Windsor Grande; and fled with Rs. 72 lakh kept in the digital locker.
Oshiwara police said the suspect entered the flat using duplicate keys and using the digital locker code made away with the cash. The incident took place between March 19 and 20, when Kumar Nigam was in Versova, visiting his son and daughter. The cops are probing whether the accused managed to skip the security check or made an entry in the visitor's logbook before entering.
The police suspect that the musician's former driver, who was sacked from his job eight months ago, is behind the theft. Sonu Nigam's sister Nikita aka Teesha filed the complaint with the Oshiwara police on Wednesday after their father went through the CCTV and found his former driver entering the building on two occasions.
"It is suspected that the thief was aware of the cash that Agam Kumar had kept in the flat. Because the burglary occurred a day after he had kept the money in the house," said a police officer of the Oshiwara police station.
