Nagpur: Union I&B minister Anurag Thakur warned OTT platforms against dishing out objectionable content like graphic nudity and expletive-laden dialogues by taking advantage of the creative freedom granted to shows. “We will not accept if someone crosses the limit,” he said in Nagpur on Sunday.

Thakur said the government has come across a flurry of complaints lately against OTT platforms and a process is now in place to deal with them. “Since complaints have risen in recent times, our department is taking it very seriously. If changes need to be made (to the process) then it will be dwelt upon with the full attention it deserves,” he said.

The three-level process begins with the producer(s) resolving the issues. “Almost 90% of the complaints are addressed by them at this stage,” Thakur said.

If a complaint still remains unresolved, it goes to the OTT associations. “They take care of the maximum number of issues and resolution is found for the majority of the complaints,” the minister said.

Some complaints still pass through the process and land in the ministry. “When it comes before the government, before our department’s committee, strict action is taken,” Thakur said.
