Despite having a career spanning close to three decades, actor Rohit Bose Roy still feels “under-recognized by his own fraternity.” The Mumbai Saga (2021) and Forensic (2022) actor says, “You can observe from the time I joined the (Hindi television and film) industry to date, nobody has ever — be it the critics, the audience or peers — said that Rohit Roy is a bad actor.”

Opening up on getting less recognition than his peers, Roy says, “Lack of networking is one bit — and I am not manipulative. I have never been able to manipulate (people) for anything.” The 54-year-old adds, “I am a friendly guy but if you are expecting me to suck up to you or treat you differently to get me a role, I can’t do it. I have not done this since the beginning.”

In a recent Instagram post, the Locked In Love (2020) actor wrote, “I always felt a little under recognized by my own fraternity. In spite of the love shown to me by the audiences right since #swabhimaan up until #kaabil and I must admit, it does hurt a little. People who say accolades don’t matter must be lying coz they do!!! They are a validation of your work! (sic)”

Roy elaborates on his point, saying, “I do not want to blame anybody. It is my karma and my destiny. I have no answer when people ask why we don’t see more of you.” He goes on to add, “After such a big film and a successful role in Kaabil (2017), I sat at home for a year and a half. It all boils down to my destiny. If you keep working hard even destiny has to bend.”

The actor, who is also the brother of actor Ronit Roy, is currently focussing on his directorial and says it is important for him to win awards and accolades.

“It means somebody has thought of you. I feel the gratification. I like the validation when people say you did a good job. Awards do make a difference and they make me smile even it is for a day,” Roy signs off.
