The recent murder of actress Veena Kapur (74), following which her son Sachin Kapoor (43) was arrested by the Mumbai police, has sent shockwaves through the industry. She was murdered by her son over a property dispute. The two had a heated argument following which Sachin hit her with a baseball bat on her head repeatedly.

Later, with the help of their house help Chhotu aka Lalukumar Mandal, he dumped her body into a river outside Mumbai. The police initiated an investigation on December 6 after a missing complaint was filed by Veena’s elder son, who is settled in the US. Her body was found last week and later, Sachin confessed to his crime.

Actor Aditya Shukla knew Veena Kapur very well and feels bad that she could not be saved. He says, “My mother (actress Shielly Shukla) and Veena Kapur ji acted together in the TV show Bhabhi about two decades ago. They became friends and Veena ji would often visit us. She had told us that her younger son was treating her badly. He would torture her mentally, make a mess at home, play loud music and call people over.”

He further narrates, “Veena ji and her husband divorced in 2016. He passed away last year after which Sachin started demanding a part in the property, claiming that it was under his dad’s name, which wasn’t the case. Aunty had disowned Sachin legally, and she offered him a crore to vacate the house. But he wanted more money even though he is quite well off himself.”

Aditya says the senior actress had even got CCTV cameras installed at her house for her safety. He adds, “My friend and I helped in setting them up. She would show us the live footage and what we saw was terrible. Veena ji is no more...everything happened because of money. I can’t believe a son could do something like this to his mother. He should be given the harshest punishment possible.”
