The Tamil film PONNIYIN SELVAN - PART 1 has done decent business in Hindi as it collected in the 1.75-2 crore nett range in Hindi and there was another 85 lakh nett coming from the Tamil version in Hindi circuits. These are fair numbers for a dubbed film with a name like this and pretty much no face value or music.

The film has scored huge in South states with its home state Tamil Nadu looking at an an opening which is among its the biggest ever in the state and should be among the top three or four films with collections around the 22 crore nett mark.

Karnataka has done business of around 3.50 crore nett while Nizam/Andhra is also around 4.50 crore nett. The all India collections of this film will be around 35 crore nett which is a huge number but its a huge budget film and it remains to be seen how it goes.

The film has been made by Mani Ratnam who made a few Hindi films in the 90's though it was his dubbed film BOMBAY which did best thanks to the bigger centres. The film has also scored huge in overseas with collections looking to hit $5million though that's with a two days in the USA which is the best market. UAE is around $400k with rest of Gulf to come while United Kingdom has grossed £250k. There will be big numbers in Far East which is the case for most Tamil films.

PONNIYIN SELVAN - PART 1 showed good growth in Hindi as collections jumped around 40% with collections of 2.50 crore nett. This takes the total collections of the film to 4.35 crore nett over two days and the film is doing reasonable business in Hindi for a dubbed film though its really about what happens on the Monday.

The all India collections of the film were around 31.25 crore nett on day one and second day is 28.50 crore nett for a two day total of 59.75 crore nett.

The collections of the film in its home state of Tamil Nadu are as follows and the film held up supremely well on its second day and looks on course to be one of the biggest grossers in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu got its biggest grosser VIKRAM earlier this year and this film could challenge the Kamal Haasan starrer. In overseas, this film had a huge opening and worldwide it was the biggest film for the industry after 2.0 and KABALI with around 80 crore GROSS. The film is also the second most expensive film of the Tamil film industry after 2.0.

The Tamil dubbed film PONNIYIN SELVAN - PART 1 has collected a fair 7.50 crore nett in Hindi with very good growth coming on Sunday as certain mass pockets did well. There are chances the film can have a good hold on Monday though collections will be low.

The all India collections of the film were around 31.25 crore nett on day one, second day was 29 crore nett and Sunday was 32.25 crore nett for a three day weekend total of 92.50 crore nett.
