KGF 2 – RRR first day collection
Box Office India Trade Network

KGF - CHAPTER 2 has emerged with biggest opening day ever in India as it collects around 108 crore nett across the country. Now this will come with an * because how the markets in Nizam/Andhra and Tamil Nadu work and more so the former. These two areas have many centres which in our industry will be known as cash centres and what happens in Nizam/Andhra is the value of these is all lumped onto day one. Basically it was the same in our industry in the 90's. Rather than day one, lifetime numbers were lumped into week one.

Then the studio culture came in and some of these cash centres got opened up to report actual collections while the ones which remained generally were equalled out in terms of reporting in the excel sheet. There was an X amount of share from these places; so it was doubled up for apprx NETT and 60% went over the weekend and 40% rest went on the weekdays and some just equalled it up over the seven days. They are still there though less post the pandemic.

The problem in Nizam/Andhra is that it is not really measurable like our markets. We maybe have a couple of crore coming from these cash centres for a really huge film but in Nizam/Andhra, it goes into multiple of crores. It can be claimed that a film has done 70, 80 or 100 crore on the opening day and the way they report it is fair as done for all films but its not the way to measure box office. Now here KGF - CHAPTER 2 comes a film from a different industry which challenges; so it has to be reported in a fair way.

The people in the industry know this and its hard to explain to the layman but lets just say the reporting is a little like say we lump all the lifetime single screen business of a film like TIGER ZINDA HAI or WAR on the day one numbers, then these films will also be showing insane first day numbers. Then next day there are no single screen numbers and so a huge drop and then you level of from there according to the appreciation of the film. We have also reported some Telugu films like this also but that's more about a lull in the Hindi box office. So to keep the site ticking along, you go along with it here or there.

Also as known within the industry, we cant build a daily 100 crore GROSS capacity from 2500 cinemas and hence, its impossible to do from 1000 odd cinemas in Andhra even with extra shows and higher rates. In Tamil Nadu, they do not do this but again a lot is not measurable so what happens there is for a film like BEAST; a few idiots will claim 40 crore and other idiots will say 20 crore and each to his own basically.

Below are our numbers for both KGF - CHAPTER 2 and RRR and in NETT terms these are the two biggest openers ever. In GROSS figures, BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION can challenge but that becomes another exercise again with number crunching and is pointless for the time being. In GROSS numbers it will also be closer between KGF - CHAPTER 2 and RRR but KGF - CHAPTER 2 should still edge ahead. The collections for KGF - CHAPTER 2 are all practically actuals for all areas except Nizam/Andhra where that cash thing comes in and many stations have to be estimated. The RRR figures outside Hindi are estimates.

KGF - CHAPTER 2 is the biggest opening film ever film in India in terms of NETT collections and others may calculate in different ways and so be it but in actual box office measurement, it can be said with confidence it has the highest NETT collections ever seen on day one in INDIA. The footfalls will also be higher than RRR as that Nizam/ Andhra business for RRR comes with very high ATP. The footfalls will not reach BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION levels but are second highest ever on day one. Below are the BoxOfficeIndia numbers of KGF - CHAPTER 2 and RRR across India.
