Naam, starring Ajay Devgn, which was made in 2006 and also features Sameera Reddy and Bhumika Chawla, is all set to release this summer. This psychological action thriller directed by Anees Bazmee had the filmmaker collaborating with Ajay for the fourth time. In the past, the two have worked together on Hulchul (1995), Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998) and Deewangee (2002).
Bazmee had earlier revealed that the film was ready for release and that the producers were taking a call on the date. Initially, the film was being produced by Dinesh B Patel, who gave Ajay a break in Bollywood with Phool Aur Kaante (1991). It has now been acquired by Gujarat-based businessman and producer Anil Roongta and will be released under the banner of Roongta Entertainment.
Talking about Naam, he says, “I am proud to present my first Bollywood project with Ajay Devgn. It is a fitting tribute to Dinesh B Patel, the person instrumental in making Ajay’s debut movie Phool Aur Kaante and it is only destined that his last film was with his favourite actor.”
He adds, “Unfortunately, Dinesh ji passed away shortly after the remaining portions of the film were shot. A common friend approached me and requested me to complete the film. I finished all the post-production work and cleared all the dues. I am extremely satisfied with the final product. Ajay will be seen in a brilliant role and indulging in some high-octane action.”
Naam is about a man who loses his memory and embarks on a journey to find his identity. The movie has been shot in Switzerland and Mumbai, and has music composed by Himesh Reshammiya. The makers are eyeing May-July for the release of the film and are in talks for either a theatrical or an OTT release.
