Writer-director Vikkramm Chandirramani has slammed the makers of Gehraiyaan, alleging that they took inspiration for their plot from his 2019 short film, The Perfect Murder.

Chandirramani, who also took to social media to point out 10 detailed similarities between his film and the Shakun Batra-directed project, tells us that no permission was sought from him.

“After Gehraiyaan was released, people started calling me to tell me how it was similar to my film. When I watched it, I felt the same. But, nobody asked me before (making this film).”

He further says that if the makers had asked him, he would have been okay with giving them permission to take inspiration from his 18-minute short film.

“They have credited four writers for the movie. But I was the sole writer of my film. I don’t expect to hear from them. I doubt they will get in touch with me to sort this out,” he adds.

He reveals that his film won the Best Director of a Foreign Language Short Film award at the South Europe International Film Festival held in Spain in May 2019, the Best Drama award at the NCCC Film and Animation Film Festival held in Niagara County, USA. And it has got over four million views on YouTube.

So, is he planning to take any action against the production house? “It is such a big production house, rooted in the industry, so I cannot do anything. I am only pointing it out because somebody has to say it,” he ends.

We reached out to the makers of Gehraiyaan for a comment, but were not met with a response.
