Cop act for Sanya Malhotra, with a comic twist

Sanya Malhotra, playing a young widow on a journey of self-discovery after the untimely demise of her husband, was a delight to watch in Pagglait (2021). Will producer Guneet Monga and Malhotra be able to recreate the magic of the charming film? That’s the obvious question as the duo reunite for a comic caper.

mid-day has learnt that Malhotra will play a cop in the yet-untitled project that is set in the heartland of India. A unit hand reveals, “Sanya has made a few trips to the interiors of Madhya Pradesh to prepare for the part. It’s a classic small-town story, and will require her to pick up the dialect.”

The source adds that Monga is looking for a suitable director who is familiar with the milieu and will be able to pull off the laugh riot. “The final cast and the director will be locked soon. As soon as Love Hostel drops online, the actor will head to Madhya Pradesh for a month-long schedule of the movie.”

Malhotra is also rumoured to front the Hindi remake of the Malayalam gem, The Great Indian Kitchen (2021).
