Bhopal: Bhopal Police on Thursday evening registered a case against actor Shweta Tiwari over a controversial comment she had made during the promotion of a web series. She apologized for her remark on Friday, saying it was “misconstrued” and it was never her intention to hurt anyone.

Shyamla Hills Police have registered a case against Tiwari under IPC section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) on the basis of a complaint from a man who was present at the press meet on Wednesday evening where the actor made the controversial remark, DCP (Zone-3) Riyaz Iqbal said. The complainant alleged that Tiwari had deliberately said the words.

During the promotion of an upcoming web series in Bhopal, actor Shweta Tiwari landed in a controversy for allegedly referring to God while making a statement about her undergarment. Soon, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister, Narottam Mishra, directed the police to investigate her remark.

Director and writer Manish Harishankar says, “We had a press conference for our web series, Showstopper, in Bhopal. Through the show, we want to create awareness around the profession of a bra fitter, a relatively untouched territory in India. While Shweta plays a fashion designer, Saurabh Raaj Jain (actor; below) will be seen as a bra fitter.”

Harishankar further explains that Jain, who played different deities in various mythological TV shows, was questioned by the media about now playing a bra fitter. “That’s when Shweta made a statement, ‘Mere bra ki size bhagwan le rahe hain,’ and the statement went viral. Her statement was a joke,” he adds.

Tiwari, too, issued a statement claiming that what she said “has been taken out of context”. She added, “When put in context, one will understand the statement in reference to ‘bhagwan’ was in context with Saurabh Raaj Jain’s popular role of a deity.” She added that as the statement “hurt feelings of people”, she’d like to “humbly apologize” for the same.
