Several Bollywood celebrities took to social media on Wednesday to applaud Mumbai Police’s initiative to ensure women’s safety. Many celebs shared the two-minute video, which showcases the squad — that can be reached by dialing 103 — swinging into action and helping women who face harassment in public spaces. Amitabh Bachchan has lent his voice for the video directed by Rohit Shetty. The Nirbaya Squad was launched in September last year.

Acknowledging the efforts of Mumbai Police, several members of the film fraternity urged citizens to take advantage and make others aware of the helpline. Salman Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Sara Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Karan Johar, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Bhumi Pednekar, Urmila Matondkar, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu and many others praised the initiative.

The squad’s members, consisting of women cops, will be maintaining a strict vigil in crowded areas like bus stands, railway stations and malls to ensure that women are safe in such locations. The message is conveyed through visuals of female police officers standing tall against the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Marine Drive.

Appreciating the initiative, Salman Khan tweeted, “Really grateful to our Mumbai Police for launching the ‘NIRBHAYA SQUAD’ for women safety, very helpful for working women, senior citizens, children and women in need (sic).”

Shahid Kapoor, too, shared the video and said, “Kudos to the Mumbai police force for implementing a dedicated safety cell called ‘Nirbhaya squad’. Created for women’s safety and to prevent women related crimes, this squad will be set up in every police station across the city, and one can reach out on their helpline number 103 in times of crisis. This is a great initiative and I hope it helps curb the harassment against women.” Ajay Devgn called it an “absolutely admirable initiative.”

Among the leading ladies, Nimrat Kaur wrote, “A marvellous initiative @CPMumbaiPolice (sic)”. Quoting a line from the video, Yami Gautam Dhar said, “Laangh Ke Ab Tu Laxman Rekha, Ban Nidar, Ban Nirbhaya! Fearless women — a trademark of Mumbai! And now a dedicated squad, which is a reflection of the fearlessness amongst the women in this city — Nirbhaya Squad (sic).”

Meanwhile, Diana Penty wrote, “This Republic day, take note of the right to safety of women! We deserve to be safe (sic)!”
