Even before actor Pratik Gandhi became an overnight sensation following the success of his web show, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, he had a jam-packed schedule. Pratik recalls, “I did multiple things simultaneously over the years, including a full-time job, doing theatre, going to rehearsals, travelling for shows, etc. I don’t remember taking vacations, trips, or even weekend getaways in all those years.”
As a result of his constant workload, his relationship with his wife, actor Bhamini Oza Gandhi, whom he married in 2009, suffered. “My wife and I have had multiple discussions and fights all these years about how busy I am,” Pratik says, referring to how his wife felt. He goes on, “She kept asking me, ‘What are you running for? When will it end? When will we get time for ourselves?’ I agree that I have been leading a very selfish life.”
However, Pratik claims that Bhamini is now content, particularly with the way his career has evolved and how they are living “a joint dream”. However, he adds that they are still finding it difficult to carve out time for themselves. “We often slip away to steal moments. We try to travel together. There was this one time when I was in the middle of changing flights. I arrived at the airport after shooting somewhere for about a month and was leaving for another 10 days. So I called her and we met at the airport,” the 41-year-old shares.
On the professional front, this year, the Bhavai (2021) actor will appear in five projects, sharing screen space with actors Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu and Richa Chadha, among others.
When asked if he fears being overpowered by them, he candidly shares, “Not at all! During our reading sessions, I realised that the journeys of my characters in these projects had a lot of scope and room to overpower each other. Having said that, these actors are extremely professional and secure in their own space.”
