Shivaji Satam has been seen in Marathi and Hindi movies since 1975. But he became a household name when he played ACP Pradyuman in the TV show CID, which aired for 20 years. But after the show went off air in 2018, one hasn’t seen him on the screen.

Talking about this, the veteran actor says, “I am not happy with the kind of offers I am getting. It’s been around two-and-a-half years that I have been looking for a good role. Sometimes people typecast me and give me similar cop roles, which I don’t mind playing, but they should be interesting and different. I am not one of those actors who would take up any role just for the sake of working. I want to do good work and I’ll only accept a role if it interests me.”

Ask him whether he feels typecast after playing ACP Pradyuman for so long, and he says, “I don’t think I have been typecast because, since the beginning of my career, I have played different roles in various genres. So people have seen me in different avatars even if CID went on for a long time.”

The pandemic has been tough on everyone. But Satam did shoot during this time. “I did Marathi movie and I also did a few ads,” he says. He is impressed with the way youngsters work. “I really like how these youngsters work. They are very clear about what they want. I like the energy, which is why I enjoy working with younger people and also adapting and learning from them,” he says.

Coming back to CID, there have been talks about the show coming back or a show on similar lines being made. Satam says, “It’s work in progress. It’s not easy to bring it back, but yes, everyone is working on it. We need to look for a channel and various other things. When everything falls into place, it will take off. But yes, whenever it comes back, it will be in a different and interesting format.”

The actor has an eight-and-a-half-year-old grandson with whom he loves spending time. He says, “My grandson, Yuvan, is very naughty and fun to be with. Someone in the family showed him CID and how I act in that show. So once came up to me and said, I know how you do ‘Kuch toh gadbad hai’ on the show! He enacts my dialogue very well. It’s fun to see him do that.”
