The actor talks about yoga and Ayurveda at Bounce Back Bharat — The Ayurveda Project
HINDUSTAN TIMES (December 29, 2021)

One of the most important lessons in the last few years has been to prioritise health. In keeping with this objective, Fever FM along with Healthshots, organised the digital event, Bounce Back Bharat — The Ayurveda Project, where celebrities, gurus and new-age influencers gathered to celebrate the ancient knowledge of Ayurveda and discuss its relevance today. During one of its sessions, actor Sonakshi Sinha, who has always been an advocate of living a healthy lifestyle, spoke with RJ Stutee Ghosh. Excerpts:

How did you maintain your health during the pandemic?
I, too, just like others, understood the hardest truth of this pandemic — health should be our priority. To deal with any virus, we must have strong immunity. Things that make up [overall] health are stamina, the immune system, a healthy lifestyle with proper sleep and good dietary habits. I always feel the natural way is the best way to heal or to achieve anything (in life). That’s why I have adopted a healthy lifestyle from my learning about diets and exercises.

What is the importance of yoga and Ayurveda in your life?
Yoga has been that one form of exercise that I have followed for the longest time, and it is like whenever I get bored of any type of exercise, I start doing yoga. I always fall back on it. I think yoga is not just (an) exercise (form), it is way beyond — you work on flexibility, body and mind relaxation, and much more. Even pranayam is so good for you, it makes you emotionally, mentally and physically strong. And with the help of Ayurvedic knowledge, which is available in every Indian household, [I, like many others,] know how to deal with small things. I try and follow a few things, such as drinking at least half a litre of water as soon as I wake up, making sure to consume less salt, avoiding pills to check my body strength and exercising daily.

Any message for our readers?
It’s important to maintain good health. If I talk about myself, I never liked going to the gym, and in my journey of getting fit, I have tried so many different forms of exercise — I started with crash dieting and the gym, then weight lifting, then yoga, then dance, and now Pilates. Trust me, I never enjoyed anything for a long time, but now I’ve got my happy space in Pilates. So, to find your happy space, you need to try every day. And it’s not important to follow what everyone else is doing. Do what you like, just make sure you find your happy space with good health.
