SOORYAVANSHI continued its strong run at the box office with collections in the 11.50-11.75 crore nett region. The biggest drop on Tuesday was in Mumbai circuit but it still remains very strong and the best circuit of them all. The collections are over 43 crore nett in the circuit.

Gujarat/Saurashtra also saw a drop but that was bound to happen as the film had been at record or near record levels every day for the first four days. SOORYAVANSHI is still on course to be the biggest grosser ever in Gujarat outside BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION but it depends on the business in week two and week three.

The business has just started and to be challenging all time records anywhere itself is a big achievement. The first week is heading for collections around the 120 crore nett mark and then it would be about where the crucial second Friday lands. There is no competition and the hold should be good. 

There are drops in Delhi city and East Punjab but that tends to be the case with most Rohit Shetty films. The two places which do better in North for Rohit Shetty are UP and Haryana and the former is still steady while the latter underperformed in the weekend due to 50% occupancy rule.

The winning run continues for Akshay Kumar post the pandemic as he just picks up right where he left off in 2019 with SOORYAVANSHI. It was a huge year for Akshay Kumar in 2019 with KESARI, MISSION MANGAL, HOUSEFULL 4 and GOOD NEWWZ and it was just not the huge success of these films but just complete domination in that year.

After 2019 and the huge success of these four films, the pandemic hit and cinemas remained shut for 18 months. Now in these 18 months films there were many films that were said to have got appreciation or love. Said is the word as they were generally works of PR but the only genuine winner in those dark days was another Akshay Kumar film LAXMII.

The others got FAKE love and appreciation while this film LAXMII got a REAL audience as it practically smashed all records on satellite outside the BAAHUBALI films and continues to do well a year after release. So even in bad times the guy delivered a genuine winner. We wont say HIT as it did not release in cinemas but going by the satellite there is a good chance it would have been driven by Central and Western India.

So huge success in 2019 and then somehow a solid winner in the pandemic and now it came down to the same hero to put the Hindi film industry on the map again with SOORYAVANSHI and he has done that with flying colours. There was an attempt in August with BELLBOTTOM as well but that was bad timing and even God could have not done anything at that point of time. Here with SOORYAVANSHI, there is also credit due to the director Rohit Shetty also but without a big star like Akshay Kumar, this situation would be near impossible to succeed in as the industry is star dependent.

SOORYAVANSHI may not do the business of HOUSEFULL 4 which is the biggest Akshay Kumar grosser or even a GOOD NEWWZ in the final count but its given the industry a new lease of life and that is more important than some benchmarks which will go anyway in time.
