Tanushree Dutta was last seen in the 2010 thriller Apartment. After a decade, she was all set to mark her comeback in Bollywood. But the Coronavirus pandemic derailed her plans “in a big way”. She says, “Two of my films went into a limbo. Given their low budget and well-structured setup, there is a certainty of good returns. So, financers are hopeful that they will go on floors soon.”
In the 2000s, she was seen in commercial entertainers like Aashiq Banaya Aapne (2005) and Dhol (2007), among others. But now, she looks forward to trying her hands at other genres: “Today, I feel free as a bird. I want to experiment with different kind of films, platforms and art forms. I want my creativity to evolve.”
So, is she happy with the offers coming her way? “There is interest and excitement among the viewers to watch me on screen again and I won’t disappoint,” she shares.
After resorting to spirituality, the actor was back on the radar in 2018 when she publicly accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her, on the sets of Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss (2009), an episode that catalysed the #MeToo movement in India.
Dutta says that staying away from showbiz gave her perspective. “It was therapeutic and revelatory. It was like going to a real life acting school. I’ve lived many lives in just a lifetime and come full circle. My choices now, as an actor, will certainly reflect this diversity,” she ends.
