TWO REAL-LIFE WAR FILMS TO CLASH IN THIS INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEK
The next week is going to be very exciting as Bellbottom, the first big Hindi film since March 2020, will finally release in cinemas. It’ll clash with Fast & Furious 9 and that’ll add to the fun. But before that, there’s another interesting clash to look forward to, albeit on digital. Independence Day falls on Sunday, August 15 and hence, this week will see the release of two major patriotic films.
SHERSHAAH: It is based on the incredible heroism of Late Captain Vikram Batra, who fought in the 1999 Kargil War. Sidharth Malhotra plays the real-life hero and Kiara Advani essays Dimple Cheema, Vikram Batra’s girlfriend who never married after he lost his life. Popular Tamil director Vishnu Vardhan has directed the film while the film’s producers are Karan Johar and Shabbir Boxwala. The trailer has been impressive and the film looks like a rich product. Everyone is of the opinion that this film should have been released in cinemas. The makers and Amazon Prime took members of the media to Kargil where the trailer was launched in the presence of soldiers and army officials. It also took place on July 25, a day before the Kargil Vijay Diwas. The event was prominently covered by the media and it gave a boost to its buzz. The film releases tomorrow, that is, on August 12.
BHUJ: THE PRIDE OF INDIA: This is a multi-starrer film featuring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Nora Fatehi, Sharad Kelkar, Ammy Virk and Pranitha Subhash. Directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya, it is set during the 1971 India-Pakistan war and tells the story of how 300 women from a village in Gujarat helped the Indian Air Force in reconstructed the airbase that was destroyed in the bombings. Ajay Devgn plays the part of Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik.
The trailer is quite massy and entertaining and again, it’s a film made for the big screen. The song ‘Zaalima Coca Cola’ has got noticed. However, the VFX looks a bit poor and this became clear after the much better VFX seen in the trailer of Shershaah. Also, the dialogues are a bit heavy and one hopes that the writing enhances the film and doesn’t spoil the impact. It’ll be released on August 13 on Disney+ Hotstar. The platform has the most number of subscribers and also this is a star-studded patriotic film releasing during Independence Day. Hence, it’s sure to get one of the highest viewership's ever.
