There has been constant speculation about Munmun Dutta quitting Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. The actress, who has been playing Babita in the show for the past 13 years, has not shot for many days now. Some time ago, she was embroiled in a controversy, when she had used the word bhangi in a video that she posted on social media. Munmun, in her video, was seen saying, ‘Maine lipstick ko halka sa blush ki tarah apne cheeks par laga diya hai because main YouTube pe aane waali hoon and bhangi ki tarah nahi dikhna chahti.’ The actress was heavily trolled for this after which she deleted the video and issued an apology online.

Since then there has been buzz that she may not continue to be a part of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah because she has not shot for the show. We reached out to Munmun, who responded to us through messages. She said, “Over the past few days, some things have been falsely reported, which had negative implications on my life. People are saying that I did not report on the sets of the show and it is totally untrue. The truth is that the track in the show did not require my presence. Therefore, I was not called for shooting. Production decides the scenes and the next track. I don’t decide that. I am just an individual who goes to work, does her job and comes back. So, if I am not required in the scenes, I will obviously not shoot.”

The actress reiterated that she had not quit Taarak Mehta. She said, “If I plan to quit the show, I will declare it myself because viewers are emotionally attached to my character and they deserve to know the truth rather than just speculate.”

Producer Asit Modi said, “These are just rumours. I did not receive any communication from Munmun about her plans to leave the show.”
