Only days after he donated Rs 2 crore towards setting up a 400-bed facility in Delhi, and ordered 20 ventilators, and oxygen concentrators from Poland, Amitabh Bachchan continues to lead from the front in aiding people in their battle against the infection. It has now emerged that the megastar has teamed up with the board of Ritambhara College in Juhu to convert a part of the college into a Coronavirus care facility. The college trustees have set up a 25-bed centre that will treat the underprivileged who cannot afford to go to hospitals.
The spokesperson from the college’s committee says, “It was difficult to see so many people around us go through so much difficulty just to get a bed at a government hospital. The condition in these hospitals is already [distressing]. So, we wanted to do something [to lessen the burden on hospitals] and help those affected. When we contacted Mr Bachchan, he saw the problem at hand and immediately came forward to help.” The centre, which has been functional since last week with its dedicated team of doctors and medical staff, can be expanded to house up to 50 beds.
The financial assistance aside, Bachchan has also guided the board in identifying resources and implementing the initiative. “He gave us valuable advice. We are trying to fix the rampant issues faced by the underprivileged, and Mr Bachchan’s contributions have played a huge role in resolving these matters,” adds the spokesperson.
