After denying rumours of being in a relationship for the longest time, Sugandha Mishra and Dr Sanket Bhosale have finally gone public with their romance. The popular comedian duo, who took to social media recently to announce their upcoming nuptials, is set to tie the knot in an intimate ceremony on April 26 in Sugandha’s hometown, Jalandhar. While talking to BT about their wedding plans, they also open up about their relationship.

Sugandha feels that it was the media that played Cupid for the two. “The media had a crucial role to play in our relationship,” she says, adding, “There were several articles about us even before we started dating. We actually gave it a serious thought about a year ago and decided, why not? We make a good jodi.”

So, what made them fall in love with each other? “It was a huge challenge for me to impress Sugandha. Usko jeetna koi aasaan baat nahi hai,” laughs Sanket.

Sanket adds, “Sugandha has been a driving force for me and I realised that my life would be incomplete without her. She is selfless and helps people readily. I have been witness to her opting out of projects to make way for someone else. We are similar when it comes to comedy and are averse to vulgar or adult humour.”

Recalling their first meeting, Sugandha says, “We first met while shooting for a comedy show in Dubai seven years ago. Eventually, we became friends and started getting offers to work together. Dheere dheere comfort level badh gaya. So, when we thought about marriage, we decided that what better than having each other as partners in our lives. Sanket is family-oriented, caring, understanding and open-minded.”

Their parents are ecstatic about their match. Sugandha shares, “Sanket’s parents are extremely chilled out and very filmi. They always encourage me to sing and do well in my career. Both of them have an amazing sense of humour, too.” Sanket adds, “My mother wanted to become a singer and Sugandha’s mother wanted to become a doctor. Toh dono ko kahin na kahin eternal satisfaction mil gaya hai humaare saath aane se.”

Sugandha and Sanket had originally planned to tie the knot in December last year, which they postponed due to the pandemic. Talking about the second wave almost threatening to ruin their plans again, the actress-singer says, “Just when we started making arrangements and preparations for the wedding, the country was struck by the second wave of Coronavirus. We contemplated for long, whether we should go ahead with the plan. We finalised the venue only a couple of days ago. To be honest, aisi situation aa gayi thi ki humein online shaadi karni padti. I said online bhi karne pade main toh lehenga wohi pehnungi.”

The couple are ensuring that guests are vaccinated and getting the mandatory RT-PCR and rapid antigen tests done before travelling to the venue at Jalandhar. She says, “I didn’t want my parents and family members to travel to Mumbai, because of the COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra. Only 50-100 people will attend the wedding and there won’t be any senior citizens from either side. We had even thought of postponing the wedding. But my family was adamant on getting us married on this date. The mehendi ceremony will take place on April 24. On April 26, the engagement will take place in the morning, followed by haldi and wedding in the evening. We will host a reception for our friends in Mumbai once things return to normal.”

The couple, who will be pre-recording a special song and performance that chronicles their journey together, has decided to postpone their honeymoon and wait for things to get better.
